Planned Giving For Nonprofits

About Planned Giving:

Planned giving offers numerous avenues in which you can impact the lives of the young people here at St. Joseph Orphanage (SJO)! Let our team at SJO help you leave behind a legacy of building hope and strengthening lives for years to come. YOU can make a difference in your community for years to come.

Last Will & Testament:

One simple sentence in your will can be the determining factor in how your charitable funds are allocated after your passing. Leave your legacy to SJO In your will by including this one sentence:

“I [Full Name], residing at [Insert Address], gift to St. Joseph Orphanage, a tax-exempt non-profit 501c(3) (Tax ID #: 31-0537147), located at 5400 Edalbert Drive, Cincinnati, OH  45239, [Dollar or Percentage Amount] to be used as deemed appropriate towards the mission of St. Joseph Orphanage.”

Beneficiary Designations:

401K Beneficiary:

Did you know that you can name St. Joseph Orphanage as a beneficiary in your Individual Retirement Account (IRA), 401K, Life Insurance Policy, or Commercial Annuity? This is perhaps the easiest way to pass on a lasting legacy that will impact St. Joseph Orphanage without potential tax consequences to SJO* – since we are a tax-exempt, non-profit 501c(3) organization.  You have our guarantee that our team at St. Joseph Orphanage will work with you to identify the best legacy plan that meets your needs and circumstances.

In order to designate St. Joseph Orphanage as a beneficiary you will need to contact your IRA or 401K Plan Administrator, or your chosen insurance company to request a Change of Beneficiary Form.   Upon receipt, name St. Joseph Orphanage as a primary or contingent beneficiary with a percentage you would like for us to receive (i.e. between 1-100%). Once this is complete simply mail the form back to your administrator or insurance company for proper verification.

Please note: beneficiary designations can be changed at any time and as often as you’d like. Just follow the same instructions listed above. It is also important to review your beneficiary designations every few years to ensure that necessary adjustments are made.

*Naming an organization as a beneficiary will not create a taxable event to the beneficiary at any Federal Tax Rate.

See Your Gifts In Action:

If you are 70 ½ years of age or older, you are able to gift up to $100,000 to SJO and receive tax benefits in return.

A gift to a tax-exempt non-profit 501c(3), like SJO, won’t generate taxable income (or a tax deduction) as long as the gift is $100,000 or less.  A Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA can also be a way to make a charitable donation to St. Joseph Orphanage.  To make a RMD gift, contact your plan administrator.

As you can see, there are many ways to see your legacy put to work at St. Joseph Orphanage, both during and after your lifetime. To learn more about St. Joseph Orphanage, or to notify us of an intended gift, please contact:
